Chapter 5: Embracing the New Year
Posted by Marisa Veri on
For so many people, the start of a new year is a time when they look forward and fill up the future with their expectations. They make new rules, set new goals, and build up all kinds of ideas surrounding where that year is going to take them. For others, the new year has the opposite effect. Those may look backward at the year that just passed and think of all that was accomplished, and all that remains to be done. Still others sail through the new year without skipping a beat, not really marking it one way or the other. When I...
Chapter 4: Christmas Special

In our family we gather for large celebrations on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So having just arrived home after visiting with two sections of our families, before we tiptoe off to bed, allow me to take one last chance to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas - whether that entails celebrations with family and friends, quiet nights knitting fireside, or afternoons of binge-watching Netflix dramas - may you find joy and peace this Christmas and may the New Year bring you all the goodness your hearts can hold. For many of us, this time of year is full of holiday preparation, merriment and celebration. However, I know how much everyone likes to receive handmade gifts, so I rounded up...

Here we are at the start of November and the holiday window-dressings are already adorning the shopping malls. I have to say, ordinarily November is the most dreadful of months for me and often I would be complaining about the halls getting decked just a bit too soon, but this year is different. I have suffered intermittently from anxiety and depression for my entire adult life, but November and March seem to be particularly bad. The mere thought of the month usually sends me running. This year, in October I could sense those feelings looming, so when I came down with a cold...
Chapter 1: Feeling Like Fall
Posted by Marisa Veri on
Now that Hallowe'en is only two weeks away, the weather here has finally changed and the leaves are falling. I’m so ready to embrace my favourite time of the year. I love the food, the sweater weather, cute boots, pulling out hand-knits I haven’t seen for a few months, and the inspiration all the autumn colours and textures give to my knitting. This is also the time of year that my local knitting group joins me for a weekend long getaway. There’s usually non-stop knitting, chatting and laughing, and this year was no exception, in spite of it being unexpectedly...
